ANTICIPATE Study Completes Data Base Lock

In March 2018, COMBACTE-NET’s ANTICIPATE study achieved Data Base Lock – 6 weeks after the completion of the follow-up  phase (Last Patient Last Visit).

This important milestone marks the beginning of the study data analysis. ANTICIPATE completed study recruitment in October 2017 with 3 months follow-up (LPLV in January 2018). The 1000 eligible patients were included over a period of 13 months. All 1000 recruited patients (in 34 European clinical centers in the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Spain, Romania and France), over the age of 50 were observed for a three month period to detect any occurrence of Clostridium difficile infections CDI following antibiotic treatment. The aim was to identify the risk factors for CDI , establishing the patient population for whom the prevention will be the most beneficial .

The ANTICIPATE study started in 2016, with the French biotechnology company Da Volterra as EFPIA partner. ANTICIPATE also aims to support the development of DAV132, Da Volterra’s promising new therapeutic agent for the prevention of Clostridium difficile infections in high-risk patients. The product, DAV132, given with antibiotic treatment, decreases the residues of antibiotics in colon, and protects the intestinal microbiota from antibiotics-induced alterations. In patients, DAV132 is expected to prevent CDI and the occurrence of resistant pathogens.

COMBACTE’s collaboration with Da Volterra is also highlighted in the 2nd edition of the COMBACTE magazine, in an interview with Marie-Noëlle Bouverne, Da Volterra’s Director of Clinical Operations. Read her interview on page 50.

During ECCMID 2018, the ANTICIPATE study will be presented as a poster on ‘Incidence and predictive biomarkers of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and Clostridium difficile infection’. The presentation will take place on Saturday 21st April, at 15:30 in ECCMID’s Paper Poster Arena.

The study will also be presented in May 2018 at SEIMC (Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases & Clinical Microbiology) in Bilbao, Spain, as an oral presentation. Dr. Julian de la Torre Cisneros will be giving the presentation (in Spanish).
