ARTHR-IS: More Sites Activated

During the summer months, the ARTHR-IS project management team has been working diligently to sign the contracts and obtain the ethical approval of the 20 hospitals that are part of ARTHR-IS.

At the end of August, 7 hospitals have already been activated, 6 in Spain (Hospital del Mar, Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, Hospital Santa Creu y Sant Pau y Hospital Universitario Bellvitge) and one in France (Hospital de la Croix Rousse). The team expects that the majority of hospitals still pending will be initiated in the coming weeks.

Cases collection is progressing well, information from 12 cases and 36 controls were already collected through an online eCRF developed by the UMC Utrecht data management team.

Background

ARTHR-IS (Arthroplasty infections due to Staphylococcus aureus) is a case-control study whose main objective is to determine the risk factors for joint prosthetic infection due to Staphylococcus aureus (SA-PJI) in 20 European hospitals. The results obtained from this study will help identify the patients most at risk of developing a SA-PJI and who would benefit more from a prophylactic intervention. The ARTHR-IS team plans to complete the cases recruitment (160 cases and 480 controls) by the end of 2019.
