COMBACTE’s participation at First Immunotherapies for Infectious Disease Congress

On 11-12 December 2017 COMBACTE took part in the first Immunotherapies for Infectious Disease Congress (I4ID) in Lyon, France. The congress took place at Lyon’s congress center, gathered more than 175 attendees, 80 organizations, academics, businesses and 33 internationally renowned speakers. It was co-organized by the Technological Research Institute BIOASTER and the MabDesign association, this event was the first of its kind in France.

The purpose of the two-day congress was to foster interactions between pharmaceutical industries, research labs, service providers, and technology developers. During those two days, following topics were discussed: Immunotherapies against viral infectious diseases, Immunotherapies as an alternative treatments to antibiotics , Immunotherapies to fight emerging, re-emerging & bioterrorism infectious diseases, Next generation immunotherapies to fight infectious diseases and there was a round table discussion on Challenges on immunotherapy accessibility in emerging countries.

COMBACTE took part in the congress and also had the COMBACTE booth in the exhibition hall. Two of COMBACTE’s management board members and work package (WP) held a plenary session on ‘Immunotherapies as alternative treatment to antibiotics’ during the first day of the event. Dr. Bruno François from CHU Limoges, France who is management board member of COMBACTE-NET and WP Lead / coordinating principal investigator for the SAATELLITE Study spoke about ‘Antibody-based therapy against Staphylococcus aureus infections’ and Dr. Hasan Jafri from MedImmune, USA, management board member of COMBACTE-NET and COMBACTE-MAGNET, and WP Lead for SAATELLITE and EVADE spoke during the same plenary session about new approaches to fight against MDR bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

I4ID was communicated to be an extremely successful event by BIOASTER Technological Research Institute and the MabDesign association. There will be second I4ID which is to take place in 2018.
