ECCMID 2018 Day 1: Discover COMBACTE’s New Booth

The 1st day of ECCMID 2018 started off with a clamoring crowd visiting the exhibition hall, taking photos, having discussions, and learning new information revealed by fellow experts. 12,500 participants from 125 countries are attending this year’s congress.

COMBACTE welcomed its visitors at booth #37, which had an upgraded area with more meeting possibilities. The booth also features screens showing COMBACTE videos, as well as a touch screen where visitors can navigate the COMBACTE website, and access the 2nd edition of the COMBACTE digital magazine.

Many academic and industry partners in COMBACTE visited the booth. COMBACTE-NET Project Management Officer Terramika Bellamy (MedImmune/AstraZeneca), Management Board Member COMBACTE-NET & MAGNET Hasan Jafri (MedImmune/AstraZeneca), Academic Lead ASPIRE-ICU & SSI studies Jan Kluytmans (Amphia Hospital), Isabel Morales Barroso (Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena) and a few members of the Sevilla team participating in COMBACTE-CARE studies, ANTICIPATE study’s Greek investigator Dr. Sotirios Tsiodras (Attikon University General Hospital). Besides the COMBACTE partners, visitors unfamiliar with the project came by to learn more about the private-public partnership, the different clinical trials, and express their interest in collaboration possibilities.

At the same time, several people from the COMBACTE consortium have held/chaired scientific sessions, or poster presentations. COMBACTE’s Scientific Lead Marc Bonten held sessions on pragmatic trial designs in infection control, hot issues in community acquired pneumonia, and bacterial phages. Hasan Jafri (MedImmune/AstraZeneca) held two posters sessions on the interim pharmacokinetic analysis of the monoclonal antibodies used in two of COMBACTE’s studies: SAATELLITE and EVADE.

Coordinating investigator Dr. Henri van Werkoven (UMC Utrecht) has held a poster presentation on COMBACTE-NET’s ANTICIPATE study: ‘Incidence and predictive biomarkers of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and Clostridium difficile infection’.

Visitors interested in the COMBACTE project can also visit the ECCMID Networking Corner (ENC) (Hall 9) where seven COMBACTE posters are displayed.

The touch screen on the COMBACTE booth also gives visitors the possibility to access our Publication Library and read publications coming from the consortium.
