HONEST-PREPS Recruited 1000 Patients
HONEST-PREPS has reached a significant milestone of recruiting over 1000 patients. It has taken a little over a year since the activation of the first site back in May 2020, but despite all the hurdles and delays encountered due to COVID-19 the study team is exceptionally proud of this achievement.
Patient Enrollment
HONEST-PREPS (HOspital NEtwork STudy – Preparation for a Randomized Evaluation of anti-Pneumonia Strategies) started enrolling patients in May 2020 after activation of the first sites in Czech Republic. Currently 10 sites (located in Albania, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Romania and Serbia) have enrolled 1000 of the targeted 3000 patients. This milestone could not have been accomplished without the major contributions and dedication of the sites in these busy and challenging times. The study team is momentarily working on site activation of 8 other sites in Czech Republic, Croatia Hungary, Latvia and Serbia.
A special thanks goes to the University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady in Prague in Czech Republic. The site was the first site to reach its inclusion target of 400 subjects. The site was one of the first sites activated and has been the fastest recruiter from the start.
What’s next?
With the start of the second year, the study team will focus on carrying out first year evaluations with the sites to help them improving the speed of enrollment and keep a high quality data. One of the main goals for the study team of HONEST-PREPS study is to train and prepare the sites for the future and increase their capability in carrying out high quality research. This aligns well with the plans for ECRAID-Base and especially the VAP-POS program which is being developed at the moment. HONEST-PREPS and VAP-POS studies will work closely together. Well-performing sites in HONEST-PREPS will have an opportunity to later join the program and take part in ECRAID-Base trials.
About HONEST-PREPS
HONEST-PREPS will determine the incidence, microbiological etiology (including antibiotic resistance), management and outcome of hospital acquired and ventilator associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP) in the intensive care unit (ICU). The aim of HONEST-PREPS is to set up an infrastructure to prospectively enroll patients at risks of HAP/VAP in the ICU. Collected data will be used to inform future diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic trials. In addition to capturing HAP/VAP episodes in a timely manner.
