ICPIC 2021

On 14-17 September 2021 the 6th International Conference on Prevention & Infection Control (ICPIC) conference will take place in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference offers a unique forum for participants to exchange knowledge and experience in the prevention of healthcare-associated infections and control of antimicrobial resistance around the world.

For years experts that are also involved in the COMBACTE project are part of important ICPIC committees as organizers, support team, scientific advisory board, or abstract reviewers. Prof. Stephan Harbarth is one of the management board members of COMBACTE-NET, and academic lead of COMBACTE-NET’s STAT-Net. He is the co-organizer and chair of the scientific committee of ICPIC.

During the conference Prof. Harbarth will be giving two talks about whole-genome sequencing (WGS) for infection control: ‘How can WGS help in nosocomial outbreak investigations?’ (Wednesday, September 15, 11:45-12:05) and about multi-drug resistant gram-negative bacteria control: ‘Should we use contact precautions for resistant Gram negatives?’ (Wednesday, September 15, 16:35-16:55).

Among the invited speakers who also play a role in COMBACTE are: Marlieke de Kraker (Project Manager STAT-Net), Prof. Dr. Andreas Voss (scientific collaborator), Prof. Dr. Evelina Tacconelli (COMBACTE-MAGNET‘s EPI-Net academic lead), Dr. Philippe Eggiman (academic collaborators in COMBACTE-MAGNET’s EVADE trials), Dr. Maaike van Mourik (scientific collaborator).

Topics during the conference will cover among others IPC in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, antimicrobial resistance, catheter-related bloodstream infection, quality of patient care, advanced methods in hospital epidemiology research and early results of major clinical trials in the field, improving prevention strategies using various implementation tools as well as social media, telemedicine, and simulation models.

ICPIC collaborates with various international agencies and societies to mobilize world experts and key opinion leaders to share their knowledge and expertise, including (among others) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Check out the conference program for more information for a full overview of the science that will be presented at ICPIC 2021.
