COMBACTE Kicks Off 29th ECCMID in Amsterdam

COMBACTE  is off to a great start at the 29th ECCMID. From the 5,000 abstracts submitted at ECCMID this year, a COMBACTE-CDI poster was top-rated poster at ECCMID 2019. Only six such ratings are awarded during the congress.

The poster from COMBACTE-CDI was presented by the Scientific Coordinator of COMBACTE-CDI, Dr. Kerrie Davies: “Everyone was excited by the results, we’ve had a lot of questions about when the case control study was going to be done, in order to see the results. People were shocked by the proportion of undiagnosed cases of CDI in the community  – which is 50%. One of the most important conclusions was the need for education as there is a big chance for educating community doctors and educating the community in general about CDI, and not just hospital-acquired infections“. Dr. Davies will be also presenting during the COMBACTE Networking Event on Monday 15th of April.

Four COMBACTE poster sessions were presented during the first day at ECCMID. One from COMBACTE-MAGNET and three from COMBACTE-CDI, presented as oral presentations and paper poster sessions:

  • One Health platform to retrieve up-to-date surveillance data on antimicrobial resistance from humans and animals in Europe. Session: Using new tools to identify and measure healthcare-associated infections
  • Comparison of PCRribotypes and toxinotypes causing community v ersus hospital Clostridium difficile infection. Oral session: Controlling C. difficile in and out of the hospital
  • Detection of Clostridium difficile infection across whole healthcare economies in Europe: results from COMBACTE-CDI. Paper poster session: CDI epidemiology and control
  • Investigation of Clostridium difficile positive and negative samples using an ultra-sensitive toxin detection assay and BIOFIRE FILMARRAY Gastrointestinal Panel. Paper poster session: More to learn about CDI; molecular diagnostics and epidemiology

More COMBACTE sessions will take place in the next three days, make sure you don’t miss them! An overview of the sessions can be found here.

Across from the Poster areas, the COMBACTE booth 1.84 is also welcoming visitors interested to know more about the private-public partnership, the clinical trials, and COMBACTE’s clinical and laboratory networks.

During the ECCMID Opening Ceremony ESCMID President Dr. Jesús Rodríguez Bano stated that with more than 12,000 attendees expected this year at ECCMID, the congress is now the largest international congress in the field of clinical Microbiology and infectious diseases.
