COMBACTE’s Last ECCMID

Last week, COMBACTE participated at ECCMID for the last time in the Exhibition Hall, as the EU-funded project comes to an end this year. This year COMBACTE attended as part of the Ecraid booth. Ecraid is the long-term successor of COMBACTE. ECCMID was also a great occasion to launch the last COMBACTE Magazine, marking a decade of the project's existence and the many milestones achieved.

As the COMBACTE project comes to an end, the network of hospitals and laboratories that has been established will continue in Ecraid – the European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Diseases. Ecraid is a non-profit organisation that operates a ‘warm base’ clinical research network that undertakes various projects, each with their own studies and trials. A ‘warm base’ pan-European clinical research network is a unique network that can perform a wide range of ‘on demand’ clinical trials and offers a core range of services including clinical research supported by laboratory analyses, epidemiological analyses, statistical analyses, data management, biobanking, training, and public engagement.

Presented Abstracts

During ECCMID, two COMBACTE abstracts have been presented, both from our LAB-Net team.

The first one was presented as a poster, by our LAB-Net medical microbiologist and researcher Biljana Kakaraskoska Boceska.

Biljana presented results from the HONEST-PREPS study: “External quality assessment with Central and Eastern European countries participating in LAB-Net to prepare for clinical trials”. The poster was a part of the “Laboratory management (incl. automation, data management, QC/QA, regulatory aspects)” session.

The second abstract came from Thomas van der Schalk, who presented “Collateral fitness and pathogenicity effects on Pseudomonas aeruginosa after antibiotic exposure”. The presentation was part of the “Novel Resistance Mechanisms” session.

At ECCMID, we proudly launched the last COMBACTE magazine, marking 10 years of COMBACTE. The magazine is a testament of the research done by our colleagues, and features articles on project and studies, and interviews and testimonials from former and current colleagues. Through this magazine, COMBACTE aims to showcase the groundbreaking research, innovative solutions, and transformative policies that have emerged from the collaborative efforts. Each page tells a story of progress and resilience.
