EPI-Net Excellence Centers Project Launched

Antimicrobial resistance poses an ever growing threat to public health and the provision of health care. Its surveillance should provide up-to-date and relevant information to monitor the appropriateness of therapy guidelines, antibiotic formulary, antibiotic stewardship programmes, and infection control policies.

COMBACTE-MAGNET EPI-Net’s latest initiative envisions a network of excellence centers in Europe, contributing anonymous epidemiology data to foster development of surveillance strategies in high endemic settings with strict link to infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship programmes. The centers will be running high-level international projects on surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic policy to reduce the burden of resistant infections. Healthcare centers can also receive individualized feedback on the effect of antibiotic stewardship and infection control interventions to reduce local resistance rates  based on mathematical modeling of evidence based data.

The first call for participation to the EPI-Net Excellence centers network was launched on the 19^th of January 2021. Participation is currently open and is welcome to all healthcare centers (and their wards and units) of any level of care: level 1 (small hospital or healthcare, i.e. rural hospital, community hospital); level 2 (more differentiated clinical specialties, i.e. district or provincial hospital); level 3 (referral hospital, i.e. national hospital, university hospital).
